Scholarship, Bursary and Award Funds

Scholarship, Bursary and Award Funds established at the Edmonton Community Foundation offer donors uniquely flexible options to support students attending a variety of post-secondary institutions and other learning opportunities.

For example:
  • A donor may designate a particular learning institution to receive the net income from their named endowment fund. The institution then chooses the student(s) to receive a scholarship or bursary supported by that income.
  • Alternatively, the donor may work with the Foundation to establish the criteria needed to choose one or more students to receive a scholarship or bursary (Dollars for Learners). In this case, the Foundation will work with the donor to establish a grants panel to make recommendations to the Board as to who will receive the award.
  • The donor may wish to allow students meeting certain criteria to choose to pursue their studies at any one of a wide range of learning institutions such as:
    • Universities
    • Private and public colleges
    • Technical institutes
    • Apprenticeship programs
    • Trade schools

Such broad choices can be accommodated though a scholarship or bursary fund established at the Foundation. The Foundation works with donors to determine:

  • The type of student to benefit from awards
  • The type of learning opportunities the awards will support
  • How students will be selected
  • The donor’s priorities in establishing the fund

Given the range of options available to support lifelong learning, we encourage you to contact the Foundation at 780-426-0015 to discuss ideas and alternatives.
