Ways of Giving

You can determine what your endowment fund will support, now and in the future.

With our strong track record of identifying tailor-made, innovative options that answer your wishes and priorities, Edmonton Community Foundation (ECF) staff can help you make the decision that’s right for you.

Ways to Make a Difference – Tailor-made to you

Many donors support needs in our community – in arts and culture, education and learning, environment, health and social services, and recreation by making a gift to the “Community Fund”. The Foundation Board, with advice and support from staff and our advisory committees, allocates amounts to our community’s highest priorities.

Another option lets you focus on one or more general areas. In that case, the Foundation Board provides grants from your endowment fund to support activities within your field of interest.

Alternately, you may be passionate about one or more specific charities. The endowment fund you create can provide permanent ongoing support to charities you designate.

You can also take a very active role in identifying the charities your gift supports by providing granting advice to the Board every year. You and your family have opportunities to be involved in important granting decisions, with less work and lower administrative costs than establishing a private foundation.

The Foundation offers a number of scholarship, bursary and award options if you want to help students access a wide variety of post-secondary education and training opportunities.

There are tailor-made options for charities. Many have partnered with the Edmonton Community Foundation to build endowments to enhance the valuable programs and services those charities provide. For further information, visit For Charities.

Naming Your Fund

Whatever option you choose, you can name your fund for your family, a loved one or friend, or in any way that’s meaningful for you. Your fund’s name is a great way to always be involved with, and remembered for, your community investment.
