Community Play Space Program

Community Play Space Program began as a joint initiative of Edmonton Community Foundation and Clifford E. Lee Foundation to enhance recreational and community building opportunities for children and their families. The program supports the creation or redevelopment of public use community playgrounds and parks in greater Edmonton.
The program is intended as a small source of assistance that may leverage matching funds from a wide variety of other sources. Two major sources of funding for such projects may be the City of Edmonton’s Neighbourhood Park Development Program or the Government of Alberta’s Community Facility Enhancement Program. For assistance with accessibility funding, applicants may wish to contact the Children’s Ability Fund
Through this joint initiative, the Foundation distributes approximately $30,000 annually to play space projects. Typically, a grant under this program is in the $5,000 to $20,000 range.
Eligibility
Eligible organizations include community leagues, neighbourhood organizations, schools and/or their school advisory councils. If the applicant organization is not a stand-alone charity with a CRA number, it may apply in partnership with the City of Edmonton to receive funds on behalf of the project.
Please note that the Foundation gives priority to projects that:
-
are intended for broad public use,
-
are located in predominantly low-income neighbourhoods with limited community capacity to generate the funds necessary to build local playgrounds or develop play space,
-
include a plan outlining active community participation in project planning, fundraising and implementation,
-
include the involvement of a City of Edmonton recreation coordinator and/or other officials in project planning,
-
illustrate appropriate accessibility and accommodate diverse users, and
-
plan for construction to occur in the year the application is made.
