Edmonton Artists’ Trust Fund

success stories

Matthew Howatt chose to play the bassoon in grade eight to avoid being another face in the crowd of flutes, clarinets and trumpets that abound in junior high band classes. While Matthew is now a professional bassoon player he is troubled by the lack of bassoonists in general and in Edmonton in particular.

He decided he wanted to promote awareness of the bassoon in the hopes of inspiring future bassoonists. In 2009 he applied for and received an Edmonton Artists' Trust Fund award. The EATF is an endowment at the Edmonton Community Foundation and the annual awards are administered by the Edmonton Arts Council. The EATF supports the creative endeavours of Edmonton artists and distributes several awards annually to local artists in a variety of artistic disciplines.
