Federation of Alberta Naturalists Storm Water Pond Education Program

Alberta Naturalists success stories

A recent trend in real estate development projects is to include man-made ponds to assist in managing the run-off and collection of storm water and to enhance the visual appeal of the neighbourhood. These water features link into Edmonton's water system and it is environmentally responsible to keep the water as clean and pollution free as possible.

Edmonton Community Foundation's Community Grants Program provided financial support for a public education program that includes community leagues and individual homeowners situated near 12 of the 40 storm water ponds within the greater Edmonton area. The program provides information and tools for specific actions to improve storm water quality such as a ‘Shoreline Action Challenge,' Home Site Consultation Program and a local community ‘Workshop in a Box Program.'
