Fabian is eight years old and nuts about soccer. In 2009 a family friend established a permanent endowment fund in Fabian's name to help teach him the value of philanthropy. It was explained to him that a pot of money was put aside in his name and every year he would have some money available to give away to help other people. With guidance from his mother, Fabian looked into what he could do with the returns generated by his fund in 2009. Turns out, he could buy a lot of soccer balls and so that is what he did. His fund provided soccer balls to children in the developing world.
Fabian may not completely understand the meaning of philanthropy or comprehend the meaning of perpetuity, but as he grows older the fund will grow as well and by the time he enters adulthood he'll have had the experience of seeing first-hand the difference young philanthropists can make in the lives of children in need.
