Acknowledging that most charities don’t have in-house expertise regarding investing or planned giving, the Edmonton Community Foundation (ECF) created its Legacy Partnership program in 2005 to support charities as they build sustainable ways to fulfil their missions.
The Foundation shared its expertise with Edmonton Opera staff so everyone felt comfortable with the process and the gift. The Edmonton Opera Staff Contributions Fund was created, and moved from an emerging fund to a named fund within a year because of the deep commitment of its staff.
ECF is now coaching staff and volunteers of 17 charities through the Legacy Partnership program.
