The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director of Grants and Community Engagement, the Grants Associate role performs a wide variety of granting functions as an integral member of the Granting team.

Key components of the role are reviewing grant applications, providing support to applicants through the process, and acting as a first point of contact for charities that are applying for funding with ECF.

Another component of the role is to provide support to the discretionary grant program volunteers, sub committees and the Granting Programs Committee to ensure they are positioned to make informed and objective decisions around granting/funding proposals. This role further assists with the reporting of current Discretionary Grants. Finally, the role is tasked with stakeholder engagement with various organizations and funding bodies to support applicants and to provide recommendations for responsive granting programs and processes, encourage best practices, and to increase awareness of ECF’s role in community.

Specific duties include reviewing grant applications, participating with committee meetings, preparing letters and reports, and making recommendations on progression of grants. The role will execute the latter through efficient use of database programs, including Smart Simple and Salesforce.

Salary range: $58,000 to $70,000

The Organization

Edmonton Community Foundation (ECF), part of a comprehensive network of Canadian community foundations, acts as a bridge between donors and greater Edmonton charities to help create and maintain a strong, vibrant community for generations to come.

Through permanent endowment funds, the Foundation disburses grants annually to greater Edmonton charities. As well, the Foundation takes a direct role in selected community initiatives that help further the vision of a strong community.


This position is based at Hilltop House in downtown Edmonton. Free parking is available.

The Ideal Candidate

Are you a person who thrives on building collaborative relationships? Do you work well in a team environment where everyone works cooperatively to get things done? Does your experience demonstrate strong communication skills, and the ability to relate to a wide variety of populations and stakeholders with different needs? Finally, are you proficient in Outlook, Microsoft Office (including Word and Excel), have you worked with data bases, and does your past experience demonstrate your ability to multitask, prioritize, and complete your work in an efficient and timely manner?

As the ideal candidate, you will have three to five years of experience in the charitable sector working in a granting, funding or related area, combined with a degree or diploma in social science or a related field. Experience should include roles that require analytical skills, focus on client and stakeholder relationships, and combined with the ability to utilize databases and Microsoft office suite. Experience with Salesforce is an asset. Experience in a non-profit setting that may include the charitable sector and working with a range of populations/stakeholders is preferred. Equivalencies will be considered.

Please note a hybrid work arrangement is available, however, it will be expected that the selected incumbent be on site over the first 6 months as key relationships are established.
