Exploring Wahkohtowin Boardgame

The Exploring Wahkohtowin board game aspires to spark Non-Indigenous people to start thinking about the meaning and impact of the Treaty in Canada and how we can better our relations. The first step to rebuilding relationships is knowing the shared history of these territories and the impact of events, policy, and legislation on us all. The purpose of the game is to be an entry point to foster dialogue in an engaging and meaningful way. Exploring Wahkohtowin is a cooperative board game for 2 – 4 players aged 14 and up. Each player represents an Indigenous family seeking knowledge, skills, tools and resources for survival. They will experience major events that shaped life on the prairies such as the Indian Act, the Homesteader Act and the creation of reserves as well as face community challenges such as disease, scarcity and the imposition of colonial regimes.  In the end, players will have moved through all the events and the player with the most Indigenous knowledge cards would be the victor in reclaiming and rebuilding their future.
