David Erdmann Memorial Scholarship Fund

The David Erdmann Memorial Scholarship has been created by the Edmonton Winds and the family and friends of David to honour his memory and legacy of service to the Edmonton wind band community. David was passionate about teaching and mentoring young musicians and was a leader in the music community, both locally and provincially. He was a music educator and consultant in Edmonton for 25 years and was a founding member of the Edmonton Winds (known as the Saturday Music School when it was launched in 1976). Dave played clarinet and bass clarinet in the band for 38 years and was a member of the board for many of those years. He was among the group’s most reliable and dedicated members, and it was only when he received a terminal cancer diagnosis in 2013 that he reluctantly left the band.  Sadly, David passed away in 2016.

The Scholarship is a merit-based award, offered to a post-secondary vocal or instrumental student who demonstrates leadership in the Edmonton music community and excellence in composition, conducting, or performance. The winner is awarded a $500 cash prize and an opportunity to perform with the Edmonton Winds.
