Morris Foundation / Theatre Network Fund for Commission of Plays
The intent and purpose of the Morris Foundation / Theatre Network Fund for Commission of Plays is to support the creation of scripts focusing on work relating to mental health and/or addiction. This fund was started with a generous donation from the Morris Foundation; a private foundation that supports innovative, evidence-based activities addressing mental illness and addictions in the youth population. This Fund will support the commissioning of Canadian playwrights and the development of new theatrical work that helps us better understand mental health issues and experiences.
Theatre Network is a professional theatre company based in Edmonton that produces contemporary work with an emphasis on Canadian playwrights and stories. Theatre Network has taken on a dedication to produce theatre that is challenging and engaging in content and form, and is not afraid to challenge our conceptions of the world we live in. Our continuing commitment is towards risk, especially where it involves content and the energy that is borne from that kind of risk. Not all of our work is controversial, but we have chosen to welcome controversy, rather than fear it.
Donations to this fund are eligible to be matched by the Canada Cultural Investment Fund through the Endowment Incentives program.
